Create an Audience

Describe who you want to reach, add optional roles and documents, and Yori researches and builds the Audience.

You create an Audience by describing who you want to reach in a sentence or two. Yori researches that market and builds a full Audience with firmographics and personas. Add the job roles you sell to, or documents such as customer research, if you have them, and Yori uses them too.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A name for the Audience, such as "Mid-market retail operations leaders".
  • A short description of the business and who you want to reach. Mention the market, company size, location or situation if they matter.

Optional:

  • The job roles you want to reach, such as "Operations Director". If you leave this empty, Yori works out the likely buying group.
  • Documents about this audience, such as research, customer interviews or sales notes.

Creating an Audience uses credits. If you don't have enough, Yori tells you and doesn't start.

If you have default Brand Profiles set in Project defaults, Yori uses them as background so the Audience fits what your business sells.

Create an Audience

  1. Open Knowledge, then Audiences.
  2. Select Add audience. The Create audience window opens. Across the top it shows three steps: Audience details, Documents and Review. On larger screens, a preview on the right fills in as you type.
  3. On Describe your audience, fill in:
    • Audience name: up to 100 characters. A counter shows how many you've used.
    • Business context: up to 500 characters. Describe the business and who you want to reach.
    • Target roles (optional): type a role and press Enter to add it. Add as many as you like. Yori uses them as the starting point for the Audience's personas. To remove one, select the X on its tag.
  4. Select Next.
  5. On Add supporting documents, add files if you have them, or skip this step. Drag files onto the box that says Drop documents here, or select Choose files. To take a file out, select the remove button next to it.
  6. Select Next.
  7. On Ready to create your audience?, check the name, business context, target roles and the number of documents. Select Back to change anything.
  8. Select Generate audience.

Yori creates the Audience, closes the window and opens the new Audience page, where you can watch it being built.

Supported documents

Limit Value
File types PDF, DOCX, PPTX, TXT or Markdown
Number of files Up to 8
Size Up to 12 MB per file (2 MB for TXT and Markdown), 50 MB in total

If a file can't be added, Yori names the file and says why. For example, it's empty, larger than 12 MB, an unsupported type, or would take you past 8 files or 50 MB in total.

If something's missing

If you select Next without a name or business context, Yori highlights the empty field and shows "Enter an audience name.", "Describe the audience you want Yori to research." or both.

Your draft is kept

If you close the window before generating, Yori keeps what you typed in this browser. Select Add audience again and it's waiting for you. You may need to add documents again. The draft is cleared once you generate the Audience.

While Yori builds the Audience

The Audience page shows Building this audience, with a progress bar, a live status line and four steps that tick off as Yori works:

  1. Getting ready
  2. Reading your brief and files
  3. Writing the profile
  4. Checking and saving

The status line says what's happening:

  • "Getting things ready…"
  • "Reviewing your documents…"
  • "Building your audience profile…"
  • "Saving your audience profile…"

If the connection drops for a moment you'll see "Checking progress…". You can leave the page. As the panel says, Yori keeps building. In the Audiences list, the row shows Building until it's done. If you're on the list when it finishes, Yori tells you it's ready, with an Open button.

To cancel, select Stop building in the panel. Yori stops straight away, without asking you to confirm.

When it's ready

The panel disappears and the Audience page shows its four sections: In one line, Who they are, Good and poor fit and The people. Read them through and correct anything that doesn't match your market. The Details panel beside it shows how many gaps Yori couldn't fill. See Edit an Audience.

New Audiences are private (Only you), so only you can see them until you share them. See Share Audiences.

If building stops or fails

What you see What it means
You stopped building this audience You stopped it, or it was cancelled
Couldn't finish this audience Something went wrong. Anything already on the page stays as it is

When your brief is saved, the message says so and shows Try again. Select it to reopen the create window with your details filled in, check them, and select Generate audience.

Otherwise, start again from Add audience on the Audiences page. If an Audience shows Couldn't finish in the list, select Try again on the row, or open it to see what happened.

If an Audience has no profile and nothing is building, its page says "This audience doesn't have a profile yet." Select Build it now to open the create window with your saved brief.
