Edit an Audience

Edit each section, manage the people in it, rebuild, restore earlier versions, use it in new projects or delete an Audience.

On this page11 sections

The Audience page is where you check what Yori built and correct it. It reads like a document: one line about the Audience, then each section in turn. You edit one section at a time and save it when you're ready, and every version is kept so you can go back.

Only the person who created an Audience can edit it. If someone shared an Audience with you, you can read it and view its version history, but the editing controls don't appear.

Open an Audience

Open Knowledge, select Audiences, then select the Audience in the list. To go back, select Audiences above the Audience name.

What you'll see

  • Name: the Audience's name, up to 100 characters. If you created it, select the name to rename it.
  • Description: a short line about the Audience, up to 500 characters. If it's empty and you created the Audience, it shows Add a description. On an Audience shared with you, the line starts with Shared by a teammate.
  • Who can use it: Only you or Shared with team. If you created the Audience, select it to change who can use it. Everyone else sees View only. See Share Audiences.
  • Audience actions (the three dots), a menu with:
    • Version history
    • Rebuild this audience (creator only)
    • Delete (creator only)

Version history and Rebuild this audience appear once the Audience has finished building. On a phone, the menu opens as a sheet from the bottom of the screen.

In one line

The sentence Yori leads with when it describes this Audience.

Who they are

The businesses in this Audience:

Field What it describes
Type of business The kind of organisation
Size How big they are
Where Where they are
Sectors The industries they work in
What they share Traits they have in common

Good and poor fit

Who to aim for, and who to leave out, in two columns: Good fit and Poor fit.

The people

Who Yori is really talking to inside these businesses. Each person has a tab at the top of the section. Select a tab to switch between them. With many people, a count such as 5 people appears beside the tabs.

Each person has a name, a short description of who they are, and four lists:

  • What gets in the way
  • What they need
  • What they want
  • What moves them

Empty fields show Not specified yet, and empty lists show Nothing yet. If you created the Audience, select Add next to an empty field to fill it in.

The side panel

On wider screens, a column beside the Audience shows:

  • On this page: links to In one line, Who they are, Good and poor fit and The people. A marker slides to the section you're reading.
  • Details:
    • Gaps to fill, such as 2 gaps to fill, with Show me to jump to the first one (creator only).
    • Use in new projects, a switch with the hint "New projects start with it picked" (creator only).
    • Who can use it: Only you or Whole team.
    • Created by: who made it and when.
    • Built from: what Yori used, such as A short brief, 2 files.
    • Last updated.
  • Version history and Rebuild this audience (creator only) at the bottom.
  • On an Audience shared with you, a Shared with you note: "You can use this audience in your projects. Only the person who made it can change it."

Edit a section

  1. Select Edit on the section you want to change. It opens in a panel with editable fields, and the line under its title reads "Changes save when you press Save. Yori uses them from the next message."
  2. Make your changes:
    • Text fields: type straight into them.
    • Sectors: select Add a sector, type and press Enter. Select the cross on a sector to remove it.
    • Lists such as What they share, Good fit and Poor fit: edit each row, use the remove button to take one out, and select Add for a new row.
  3. Select Save, or Cancel to leave the section as it was. Pressing Esc also cancels.

The section shows Saved for a moment. If a save fails, the section stays open and shows what went wrong. You can't edit while Yori is building or rebuilding the Audience.

Rename or change the description

  1. Select the name or the description in the header. Both become editable.
  2. Type your changes.
  3. Press Enter to save, or Esc to cancel. The hint under the fields reminds you: "Press Enter to save, Esc to cancel".

Add, edit or remove a person

To add a person:

  1. Select Add a person beside the tabs in The people.
  2. Type a name in the first field, such as "Area managers".
  3. Fill in Who they are and the four lists. Use Add under a list for each new item.
  4. Select Add person, or Cancel.

To edit a person, select their tab, then Edit next to their name, or open the three dots next to the tab and select Rename. Make your changes and select Save. Press Esc or select Cancel to leave them as they were.

To remove a person:

  1. Select their tab, then the three dots next to it.
  2. Select Remove.
  3. Confirm Remove followed by the person's name from this audience? by selecting Remove. Yori won't write for them in new work. Work that already mentions them stays as it is.

An Audience must keep at least one person, so Remove is unavailable when only one is left.

Rebuild this audience

Rebuilding creates the Audience again from your brief. It uses credits.

  1. Select Rebuild this audience in the side panel or the Audience actions menu.
  2. In Rebuild followed by the Audience name, select Rebuild. The Create audience window opens with the current name, business context and roles filled in.
  3. Change anything you like, add documents if you want, and work through to Review.
  4. Select Generate audience.

The Audience page shows its progress while Yori works. You can select Stop building to cancel. If it stops or fails, anything already on the page stays as it is. The current version also stays in version history.

Version history and restore

Yori saves a new version each time the Audience changes.

  1. Select Version history. A panel opens: "Every change to" the Audience "is kept here."
  2. Versions are grouped by day, newest first. Each shows what happened (Created, Edited, Built, Restored or Saved), the time and its version number. The newest is marked Current. Restored versions also say which version they came from.
  3. Select an older version, then Restore.

Yori shows Version restored: "The audience now uses the selected version." Restoring adds a new version, so nothing is lost. Only the creator can restore, and not while the Audience is building. If something goes wrong you'll see Restore failed.

Use in new projects

Your default Audiences are preselected in every new project you create. Existing projects keep their own choices.

  • From the Audience: turn on Use in new projects in Details. Yori confirms Used in new projects. Turn it off to stop. You can have up to three default Audiences. When three are already on, the switch is unavailable and says so.
  • From the list: open a row's menu and select Use in new projects or Stop using in new projects.
  • From a project: open Project context at the top of the chat, select Configure to open Project defaults, choose Audiences under Default audiences and select Save defaults.

Your default shows a Default tag in the Audiences list, and the page header names it. You can use any Audience you can see as a default, including ones shared with you. See Project context and defaults.

Delete an Audience

  1. Open Audience actions (the three dots) and select Delete. You can also select Delete in the row menu on the list.
  2. Confirm Delete followed by the Audience name by selecting Delete audience.

The Audience is permanently deleted and can't be restored, and you return to the Audiences list. If it was shared, teammates lose access too. If it was used in new projects, the window warns you that new work won't start with it any more.

You can't delete an Audience while it's building. Stop the build first.
