Rules are short instructions Yori follows in every chat, such as "Always write in British English" or "Never use exclamation marks or emojis." Write a rule once and you don't have to repeat it. Switch a rule off when you don't need it for a while, and back on when you do.

Where to find it

Open Knowledge in the sidebar and select Rules. You can also select Rules among the create shortcuts on the Home page, which opens the page with the cursor ready in the new rule field.

What you'll see

From top to bottom:

  • Rules, the page title, with a summary line underneath. It tells you how many rules you have and whether any are off, for example "4 on, 1 off. Yori follows them in every chat." With no rules it reads "No rules yet. Add one and Yori will follow it in every chat."
  • The new rule field, with the placeholder Write a rule, like “Always use British spelling” and an Add rule button.
  • On: the rules Yori is following. Each row shows the rule, an on/off switch and a menu button (the three dots).
  • Off: rules you've switched off. They're shown in lighter text and kept for later.
  • A note at the bottom: "Rules are personal to you. Your teammates don't see them."

The On and Off headings only appear when they have rules in them.

Ideas to start with

If you have no rules yet, the page shows Ideas to start with instead of the lists:

  • "Always write in British English."
  • "Keep replies short and lead with the answer."
  • "Never use exclamation marks or emojis."
  • "Ask me before you assume a fact you can't check."

Select Add next to an idea to make it a rule.

Add a rule

  1. Type your rule in the field at the top.
  2. Press Enter or select Add rule.

The rule appears at the end of the On list and is saved straight away. Add rule stays greyed out until you type something.

If the rule doesn't save, the field turns red and says "That rule didn't save. Your words are still here." Select Try again.

Edit a rule

  1. Select the menu button (the three dots) at the end of the rule.
  2. Select Edit. The rule becomes a text box in the same place, with its text selected.
  3. Change the words.
  4. Press Enter or select Save.

To leave it unchanged, press Esc or select Cancel. The hint "Enter to save, Esc to cancel" sits under the box. You can't save an empty rule.

Switch a rule on or off

Select the switch next to a rule.

  • Switching a rule off moves it to the Off list. Yori stops following it, but the rule is kept.
  • Switching it back on moves it to the On list and Yori follows it again.

Use this for rules you only need sometimes, such as a seasonal campaign style.

Delete a rule

  1. Select the menu button (the three dots) at the end of the rule.
  2. Select Delete.

The rule disappears straight away and a Rule deleted message appears for about eight seconds. Select Undo in that message to put the rule back exactly where it was, with the same on or off setting. After the message goes, the deletion can't be undone.

How rules apply

  • Every chat: Yori follows every switched-on rule in every chat in this workspace, in every project. You don't need to select them.
  • From your next message: changes take effect from the next message you send, including in chats that are already open.
  • Services too: your rules also apply when Yori runs a Service for you.

Rules work best when each one is short, specific and about one thing. "Use British spelling" is clearer than a long paragraph mixing spelling, tone and formatting. Keep facts about your business in a Brand Profile and facts about your customers in an Audience, rather than in rules.

Who can see your rules

Rules are personal. Only you can see them, and they only shape your own chats. There's no way to share a rule with teammates. Each workspace has its own set of rules, so if you belong to more than one workspace you'll set them up in each.

Limits

Limit Value
Length of one rule 1,000 characters
Number of rules 100, counting rules that are on and off

When you reach 100, Yori shows "You can keep up to 100 rules" and asks you to delete one you no longer need first.

Troubleshooting

What you see What to do
Couldn't load your rules Your rules are safe and Yori is still following them. Check your connection, then select Try again.
Unable to save rules Yori couldn't save your last change and put the list back how it was. Try the change again.
A rule looks shorter than you typed Rules over 1,000 characters are trimmed. Split it into two rules.
